It's been going really slow lately... Not much change at all... The fern seems to be doing well. The ammount of dead leaves and stems on it seem to be diminishing slowly. It must like the tank...
The Ecosystem Project is a contained ecosystem in a thirty gallon terrarium. For a more complete description and explanation, scroll to the bottom of the page.
John
Bio: John
John was a long tailed grass lizard. He was a male, aproxamately 7 inches long. He had the brightest colours of the two remaining Eco Tank lizards. (I removed one of the three original ones and she lives in the holding tank).
John was usually the first one up in the morning. He was a very effective hunter and was the most outgoing and confident. He slept on the fern every night.
Philipa
Bio: Philipa
Philipa is the last remaining inhabitant of the Eco Tank. Her colors range from white on her belly to brown along her sides and finally a beige color on her back. She has become far more confident in herself over time, and seems to have a very strong hold on her claimed territory, the fern. Even though the tank is going through some rough times with the shortage of crickets and the death of most of the grass, she seems to be doing relatively well for herself. She retains her hold on the fern, so that she has access to the crickets who also call it home. and the fern seems to be one of the last good hiding places.
Richard J. Bugg
Bio: Richard J. Bugg
Mr. Bugg is a large superworm beetle who seems to have hitched a ride into the Eco Tank as a superworm in the dirt that I used to originally fill the tank. He was not expected to last very long in the tank, mostly due to my ignorance about the lives of his kind of beetle. However he seems to have done quite well for himself in the tank. He lives in the end of the driftwood log that stretches the length of the tank. He does share his home with the occasional surviving cricket; this leads me to beleive he is either a herbivore, a scavenger, or an omnivore, feeding on dead crickets and both living and/or dead plants. He is about 1.5cm long and completely jet black.
